one-of-a-kind

Hands Up Not Handouts is an organization that partners and mentors with women around the world.  Besides marketing their artistic talent, each design symbolizes a meaning and has a story behind it.  Their first collection features one-of-a-kind accessories that are handmade by the women of Palestine and Rwanda.  Their art gives a whole new meaning behind the power of purchase.

Fair Nights

Me and the guy went to the County Fair Saturday night, didn't go on any rides but ate our way through, and finished with a strawberry crepe!

my weekend

$4 bouquet of fresh cut flowers from LI's Farmer's Market
Brunch homemade apple pancakes
Sunday stroll through Balboa Park's Botanical Garden:

First attempt (and semi-cheating) at making homemade lasagna for dinner.  Easy Recipe and so good!
Preheat the oven to 375°F
9-12 lasagna noodles (about 1/2 of a 1 lb. box)
1 lb. bulk Italian sausage or ground beef, cooked and drained
2 jars marinara sauce
1 container (15 oz.) ricotta cheese
4 cups (16 oz.) shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup (2 oz.) grated Parmesan cheese
2 eggs, lightly beaten

Combine the ricotta, 3 1/2 cups of the mozzarella and parmesan. Add 2 lightly beaten eggs. Combine until well-mixed. Lightly grease a 13" by 9" baking pan or dish and add a small amount of the remaining marinara sauce to the bottom.
Arrange the noodles to cover the surface of the dish, slightly overlapping. Spread half of the cheese mixture evenly over the noodles, and then cover with half of the meat sauce. Repeat for another layer of noodles, cheese, and meat.
Finish a last layer of noodles and then cover with the remaining mozzarella, adding leftover marinara sauce to the sides and corners if necessary to avoid drying out. Cover with foil and bake for thirty minutes. Uncover and bake for another ten minutes.

How was your weekend?
